Operation and Maintenance of Shivamogga Airport

KSIIDC has already taken up the operation and maintenance of Shivamogga airport. Notably, this will be the first airport in Karnataka to be operated and maintained by the state government. KSIIDC has appointed required human resources to Shivamogga Airport. For the First time KSIIDC has obtained the necessary license for airport operations from DGCA. Land acquisition and procurement of equipment required to carry out the Night Landing operation is in progress.


The passenger Terminal Building (PTB) designed to handle about 300 passenger during the peak hour. Runway, apron, isolation bay, taxiway and other infrastructure facilities are designed for operation of Airbus-320 type of aircraft. Airport has state-of- the-art facilities and is built as per the guidelines and requirements specified by MoCA, DGCA, BCAS and AAI.

The airport has the 3rd longest runway in the state. The runway will measure 3,050 m and accommodate wide body aircraft for landing.


The Shivamogga Airport was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Government of India, 0n 27.02.2023. Steps are being taken to provide air connectivity from Shivamogga to major metro cities across the country.

During the campaigning for the state assembly elections, as many as 20 flights landed at this airport.

Indigo Airlines will commence the scheduled flight service for the route Bangalore-Shivamogga-Bangalore under Non-RCS route from 31.08.2023 and now already ticket booking has been started and later at a future date to Shivamogga- Tirupati, Shivamogga-Hyderabad, and Shivamogga- Goa which will be operated by Spice Jet, Star Airlines and Alliance Airlines under the Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN.

Shivamogga district has more than 10000 no. of Industrial units with an investment of Approx. Rs.117Crores, employing 41000 persons. Agro based industries and Automobile based industries and the Engineering based industries are the prominent ones in the district.

TOURISM

Shivamogga has some of the most beautiful tourist locations across Southern India attracting both domestic and international tourist in the region.


Jog Falls: The most thrilling spectacle in the entire western region of Karnataka are the world famous Jog falls. The wondrous sight is that of river Sharavathi taking a spectacular leap into the chasm from a height of 900 feet to from the highest waterfalls in India.


Hill Stations and Adventure: Shivamogga is surrounded with famous hill stations across South India. Some of the places are given below. Kodachadri, situated at 1411 ft above sea level and 115 Kms from Shivamogga city.

A beatific hill abode that provides panoramic looks of the Western Ghats. Agumbe, The place finds its charm at the time of sunset, the sun sets with different hues, colors, and shapes.


Wild Life: 10 kms from Shivamogga en-route Sagar town, wild animals like lions, tigers and elephants can be seen at Tiger and Lion Safari.15 kms from Shivamogga is a spot of Elephant camp in Sakrebailu. 32 kms from Shivamogga city on the way to Thirthahalli is a spot for birds migrating from far places around the world. Kuppalli, the birthplace of national poet Kuvempu, can be seen at a distance of about 70 km


In view of the rapid tourism related developments in Karnataka and the proximity to key tourism destinations in South India, Shivamogga is well poised to act as the gateway for both domestic and international tourists.
